My dearest Son:

One of these days, when you have completed your studies I am sure you will have the opportunity to visit many countries. And in your travels you will witness a bullfight.

In Spanish bullfighting as you know, a man – the matador – is pitted against an angry bull.

Segunda Katigbak Great Great Great GrandmotherI was about to write this at the eve of our national heros birthday and boy was I intrigued and happy to find out that one of the (Search Engine Optimization) SEO Specialist in the Philippines is the great great great granddaughter of the first love of our National Hero Jose Rizal!

Anyway the name of the grand daughter is Jade-Ceres Dolor a very cheerful person with always a smile on her face.  I met her after one of the SEO meet ups in makati and when I visited her facebook I was very happy to chance upon this picture of her and her grandmother.  In her own words shes the eldest girl of the 4th generation from her (Segunda Katigbak) first child.

ANATOMY OF THE ANTI-HERO

Posted on February 1, 2008 with No Comments

Joaquin, Nick. “Jose Rizal: July 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896.” In A Question of Heroes: Essays in Criticism on Ten Key Figures of Philippine History. Makati: Ayala Museum, 1977. pp. 50- 74

Paint my picture truly like me, and not flatter me at all, but remark all these roughnesses, pimples, warts, and everything as you see me. — Oliver Cromwell

Two views of Rizal that scan the man behind the monument are clearly headed for controversy. A startling anatomy of the hero is offered in “The First Filipino” by León Maria Guerrero and in “Rizal from Within” by Ante Radaic.

On reading about Edgar Jopson

Posted on February 1, 2008 with No Comments

I’m reading a book about Edgar Jopson (Edjop) a student activist back in the 60’s.
The book was written by Benjamin Pimentel.
I haven’t finished reading it but then i noticed that most problems facing the youth today are almost the same as before…
There are the moderates and the radicals (though not as staunchly supported nowadays).

The youth of their time were looking for ways and means and reasons for the problems and difficulties of their time aside from the popular sentiment and the success of then peoples revolution in China. Some great leaders placed their trust to a marxist structure having the maoist line of thinking.
