My Dear Fellow UPians,
I have a proposal.
After all the fraternity related violence and deaths in our Universities and after all those years where senseless deaths have robbed and will soon rob hundreds of students whose only goal is to get a diploma along with their family’s pride.
After all the silence and the pain I believe that it is time that we shed light and justice to these poor innocent souls whose only fault was their longing to belong.
I am proposing that an anti-hazing hall be established. That hall will house the pictures of each student that died under the hands of the fraternity/sorority they joined to be included is the year they enrolled their course and the year they should’ve graduated.
We were able to honor the memories of saints, also heroes and martyrs of the martial law years then why not honor the dead in our universities?
In doing this not only do we remind students how hard and painful for their loved ones if this also happens to them but also it will give them a chance to look at the fraternity/sorority they are joining if all the pain, suffering and death are all worth it.
It also serves as a testament to the Anti-Hazing Law, a way of closure and healing as well as a chance for reflection on the true purpose of a brotherhood and sisterhood.
I hope you support me as I send this letter to the Universities in the country, starting with the University of the Philippines.
Please post a comment with your name to show your support or you may like the page I created in Facebook.
Thank you and May justice and healing be served.
