The first time I saw Ella was in a coffee shop in makati. She struck me as someone who is very charming and witty. We never talked much but upon knowing that she is the grand-daughter of Segunda Katigbak thru facebook (the first love of Jose Rizal), I asked to write an article about her with a picture of her alongside her grandmother.
Then came Ondoy.
And then a very heart-breaking article from her blog, and now she has a case of libel.
I don’t know where to begin, if it should be with the scandal, the libel case or the person herself. So I decided to settle on the question of the strength of the pen in changing society.
Ironically to wit Ella was placed in the same position as the lover of her grandmother. Who in the strength of their pen, they illustrated their world the way they see it, from the inside out.
For one to read Ellas’ experience in the DSWD would be like reading through a pile of dead bodies atop each other. It gives you a feeling of revulsion, that halfway through the first paragraph I almost want to run to the DSWD myself and burn the institution down.
It took a long time for me before I read the complete write up.
It is that depressing. 
It made me angry, mad, disturbed, depressed, the feeling one gets when watching schindlers’ list or the documentary earthlings.
It came to a point when Ella had to close her facebook account for the number of threats she had.
It was as if what she did was despicable and malicious.
Tell me what is malicious and despicable in letting people know that DSWD lacks the manpower and the resources to help the victims of Ondoy?
My heart goes out to Ella.
So in this very small way I hope to help her in her advocacy.
