I woke up early today because the technicians of Smart bro are coming to the house to reconnect my internet connection. They have to go up the roof to get “a good signal” from their server box. Turned out they cannot get a good signal because there’s a tree blocking their server box.
I was asked to call their customer service department in hopes of having to get a refund of the previous payment I made for reconnection. They said I can get only 800 pesos because the 200 pesos was already spent for the technicians, as for the release of the 800 pesos they supplied three conditions:
1. That I will return their broadband antenna.
2. That I will not terminate my contract with them.
3. That I already finished my contract with them.
(If I still haven’t finished my contract with them the first two will apply)
I told them that the first two was completely illogical as follows:
1. I will return their antenna ergo I will have no internet.
2. I have no internet (because they have the antenna) so whats’ the point of continuing the contract with them?
3. They want me to continually pay for a contract for an internet connection that I cannot use because they cannot fulfill their end of service which I signed in other words “you give me my internet and I’ll pay you.” but for them it goes “Sorry our system can’t give you an internet connection because of a tree that’s blocking our server so even though you don’t have a connection you have to pay for the remaining months stipulated in the contract or else we’ll file a case against you.”
4. The tree wasn’t my problem, I was expecting to have a connection and they offered that connection and ensured I will have it. In the event that I didn’t get it because of a tree why are they stopping me in redeeming my 800 pesos by giving these really weird and unfair conditions?
I asked if they could reconsider the options they gave me and I was told that I should go to a Smart wireless center. I told them I am calling them because I don’t want to line up for 30 – 45 minutes (which I also did just for trying to get my internet connection relocated) just to ask if they could review my situation and have those conditions nulled.
I was told that the only ones who can help me are their wireless center agents because my request is still subject for approval by Smart in which case I might have the chance to have my internet connection disconnected without having to pay.
Ergo they cannot help me at all, they were just there to give out conditions and “not solutions” instead directing my concern to their center which is more time consuming instead of having the dilemma settled at home. (so whats the use of calling them?).
Tell you what I put up with their slow connection, and I signed their contract because I trusted that they will take care of their clients and as advised by my friends and relatives I placed my “faith” in them and availed of their services since october of 2008. But now I am painfully regretting that decision.
I pray that some Smart Broadband executive or head is reading this because I was advised to file a complaint to the DTI given its unfair practices towards consumers.
So for anyone who wants to subscribe to Smart Broadband’s services please think twice… no thrice! Or better yet don’t subscribe to them at all!
p.s.
Thank you very much to my pangga for helping me with this problem.
