Juan Ponce Enrile a classic example of how to be senile and stupid

Crediting the military more than the civilian mass movement for the ouster of Marcos, Enrile believed their failed attempt to take over power would have succeeded even if the people had not come to Camp Aguinaldo where he decided to make their last stand. “In the evening of Monday (February 24), we were already sure that we had the force to drive Marcos out. We had already the Air Force.” To further prove his point, Enrile cited Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s continued stay in power despite her unpopularity and protests led by no less than Cory Aquino. “(It) disproves the myth created after EDSA Uno that the one that made Cory Aquino president was actually People Power.” – PCIJ

Remarks like this simply makes me puke. I completely disagree with Enrile on this one, I think EDSA People power I was there to safeguard the democracy from people like him. I think even if they have the military might to take over they don’t have the moral ascendancy to lead the people in a true democracy. I think he means otherwise, that they joined the rebellion because of the rapid decrease in popularity of Marcos and after the assassination of Ninoy they are also in the list of people who due to their past affiliation with the government and given their high profile crimes against the people stands having a chance of being eliminated or better yet jailed for their past sins.

Let me remind him that for what they did in EDSA I they were absolved of their crimes and was even given the chance by the people to forgive them.  But now he’s saying that EDSA I will never be successful without the military? C’mon what are you thinking? You’re numbers don’t even count when you were holed up in Camp Aguinaldo. I don’t know if he’s just crazy or if he’s turned senile but tell you what EDSA saved your ass big time! It saved you from being jailed and it saved you from being murdered by the relatives of the people you tortured and killed.

And everything that he is now and will ever be was because of EDSA I and he will be remembered even when he passes away as just that and nothing more.

And another thing about GMA’s stay in power and citing that as a justification on the failure of EDSA I making it a myth is just a big fallacy. It took 20 years before Marcos was toppled and now it will not take that much longer if only Enrile didn’t dispose of the activists he jailed back in the days he served in the Philippine Constabulary or the local (SS) Schutzstaffel of Marcos. I hope he remembers that clearly. But then lets not cry over spilt blood let us just look at how much damage Enrile is doing for EDSA I and its spirit that is making this government more daring in whatever crime its’ doing.
