I was in the last massive rally against charter change in 2007. I remember the biggest crowd of supporters notwithstanding the fact that a lot of protesters were witheld by the police and the military nonetheless the protest pushed on and it became dramatic as the march was aimed at going to the house of congress.
The whole of commonwealth avenue going to north fairview was blocked and as more and more people were congregating in the streets and more people were shouting and marching with one goal in mind that is to kill charter change.
And the goal was met but with no further ado it was revived again and like a stupid donkey being made to chase a corn while the government rides on it there goes again the familiar protest of people and groups threatening the government that they would do “something” if the charter change pushes through.
Thats when I decided to stay put and not join the rallies.
I felt being led on an indefinite circle with the same old shit to fight over and over.
The way I see it charter change is likened to a bad big wart that we keep on cutting the top but it grows back bigger and stronger because we still haven’t taken out the roots.
Take out the roots and you take out cha-cha. Its just like keeping the burglars out of your house changing the locks again and again but you’re not doing anything on getting them inside bars.
So who’s the root? Its GMA, and yes its’ not just GMA but the congress that continuous to support her. How can you take her/them out? Well how have we been taking out stupid president’s other than people power. And what if it doesn’t work because we don’t have the numbers? Then we organize and work harder. And if it still don’t happen? ermmm then I don’t know whats next… Armed revolution anyone?
As you see alot of things don’t work anymore in this country.
Take our courts for example it has become so corrupt to the point of bidding decisions and having supreme court justices with ties to the palace ergo losing its credibility.
The military as far as I’m concerned is the one running the country and it ends there I can’t find any other means to clean them up other than obliterating the corrupt generals altogether and inasmuch bravado there is that Trillanes was able to muster and having been voted senator didn’t give him much credence to make this possible.
The church, yes the church while much has been said about its still almost endless influence over people and as much people are more gullible to follow their spiritual leaders instead of having to judge by themselves about what is right and wrong, The church has lost most if not all its moral integrity starting from not supporting the call to oust the President waaaaaay back years ago and as such their fence sitting nature has made them a great target for soldiers murdering their herd one by one making them a lesser kind than sitting ducks. But they still have a chance to really do something at least some of their flock are still alive and until such time when they are directly being harassed or when their leaders realize that indeed they are being harassed perhaps they will think otherwise.
Sadly the most incomprehensible is the fate of the NGO’s which I believe has been proliferated by government agents and vice versa NGO workers working for the government for the sake of money. If theres’ one thing this government was able to realize successfully it is the realization of the life of poverty for workers that pushes for changes in the country. They shower them with money and promise them a good future for their children and voila they turn their heads from their former idealism and become one with the “in” crowd only a few are credible. Only a few are willing. Only a few are angry. Only a few are left.
So what is my take in this charter change?
Mark my words, it will push through.
By hook or by crook it will because the stage is set for it. There is no visible opponent for it, no credible opposition and no viable alternative other than running in a marred election process controlled by the government.
If it doesn’t then what’s next? Keep GMA in power?
Think people! THINK! Damn It!
We must take care of this bitch if we are to save our necks and see the light of democracy for our children.
