Choirboy

(I just got this pic from the net kudos to the photographer ^_^)
I used to sing in a choir and while I’m listening right now with the Philippine Madrigal Singers singing christmas songs I can’t help but think how many of my former colleagues are already with them.
I remember the first time I was able to join a choral group, back when I was a kid.
I believe i was in grade 3 that time in San Sebastian College and my teacher just literally dragged me to a room where there was a man playing a piano with other students almost the same age as me. Mind you that I wasn’t informed why I was there and why they chose me all I knew was that the guy piano player asked me to mimic the tones he was playing on the piano.
On the first note I did my best not knowing why I even had to do it.
I finished all of the notes with a sigh of relief and the piano guy was so happy with me that he talked hurriedly to the teacher and told her to inform that I have to attend a practice with other kids.
Turned out, that was an audition to qualify with the manila childrens choir, yep the ones who are sent all over the world to play in different theaters. I was a member of the group of group B singers given our age and our lack of experience.
The practice was held every saturday at the PICC in manila and because I was living in Quezon City I wasn’t able to continue my membership with them after we played a major christmas concert (for free, yes talk about child labor). But tell you what i was happy as hell.
When the time came that nobody would bring me to PICC because 1. I always get sick (turned out the place where we were practicing was haunted, turned out when it was being constructed it was done hurriedly that many carpenters were buried alive and eventually cemented away to give way for the upcoming film fest back in the 70’s). 2. I was always late because of the distance. 3. It was thankless not to mention that I don’t get anything for my pains in going there.
In the end I myself hated it and settled eventually to a local methodist church to sing in their choir.
The practices were done every sundays and I enjoyed it a lot until basketball came into my life and it was then that I decided to shift loyalties and enjoy the game hehehe
