“Our greatest glory consists not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall.” – Judo Quote
I haven’t written for awhile, I guess I’m still overwhelmed with the onslaught of having my own time in my hands. But really I think I’m in a stage of having pressure subside from the previous brazilian jiu-jitsu competition.
Yes I practice brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Judo and a number of martial arts… if you ask me why I can never give you a straight answer, but then you might have an idea about it based on what I’m going to tell you in this post.
Last year I was riding a jeepney and there weretwo guys sitting beside me, then this guy whose sitting on my left side suddenly kicked the guy in front of me and shouted at him. They all went down the jeepney and the two guys beat up the guy, while the jeep sped away from the scene.
I would’ve wanted to help the poor guy but the thing is I have 5,000 pesos in my pocket which I borrowed from my GF and I thought that I should secure it first before anything else other than the fact that I don’t know what really happened between the three. I would’ve helped if the hapless guy asked for it though, but he didn’t.
I saw it all, the two guys punching aimlessly in the air and the guy just backing up until he tripped on the curb and he was already in the ground and the two guys then pounded on him.
Honestly the experience really bothered me… I was thinking what if It happened to me, would somebody help me? Would I also ask for help?
Thing is martial arts is for self-defense and that is the main reason why I am studying it. I definitely wouldn’t want to be the guy being pounded on the ground if worse comes to worse other than the fact that I want to protect my loved ones.
I also think that it is every persons divine right to save themselves if any harm is going to be done on them. I remember from a good teacher and friend of mine who told me these words of wisdom:
“If somebody hits you, he doesn’t give a shit about your life, your survival or your family. Chances are he would have to end your life in any way he could, so its better to do him in even before he gets those ideas in his head and make them happen.”
Other than this reason in mind I am also for the great discipline the art bestows its practitioner. Its not just the body that the art trains but also the mind and the spirit.
Anyway I’m off to sleep now, it’s 2 am and I’m still up. Have to train again tomorrow…
Good Night!
