“You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say” – Martin Luther
An interesting conversation took place last holy week. I was asked by a friend of mine about the sanctity of confession in the Catholic Church.
I was asked that if I was a priest and GMA went to confess to me and told me about the ZTE deal that indeed she had a hand in it and she amassed millions of dollars, would I afterwards tell the people of what she said? Would I be a witness against the government?
I told him Yes. I will be a willing witness but I will have a hard time proving it in court.
At that instant he stammered that I was wrong and I should respect the sanctity of the priesthood. That I already gave up my being a Filipino by being the priest of God.
After that he decided to go on an endless tirade against what the church is doing now (or just the half of the church) having masses in search of the truth and helping Jun Lozada being a star witness against the atrocities of the government.
Also he said that being a priest requires me to listen and use my power to nullify her sins instead of politicking.
To put it more simply the question is a matter of perspective.
It is how one priest would describe a confession of a crime. And as I see it what GMA did regardless of the sin is still a crime.
A crime comparable to a murder of a child.
A crime is a crime and criminals are meant to be judged and placed behind bars not within the confines of a church.
Its just like giving Hitler a chance to confess killing millions of Jews and not being accountable for it.
So there.
