“In the practice of democracy we vote because we have the power to unseat that person when he/she did something wrong.”
I’m writing this because I’m very much affected with the argument of having people power being over-used by some politicians for their own selfish interest
for some reason i really don’t get the point of their argument because in the concept of democracy the power of the government should reside from the people so why the hell stop people from voicing out their grudges by riot police and warrantless arrests?
i just dont get it.
EDSA 1:
we fought the dictatorship because we want to practice democracy and by doing so we marched the streets and fought the oppressor which was marcos.
we were succesful if only that we forced democracy through our own hands.
EDSA 2:
we fought the cronyism and irrationality of Erap and regardless if people think that it was by popular stupidity or propaganda we were able to take care of him by again the practice of democracy.
EDSA 3:
the poor folk fought for their rights for EDSA for their voices to be heard. because even if the two edsa’s above came through they were still the unheard mass who continually suffers because of elitism and corruption.
so given the above three EDSA’s we were successful because we practiced democracy.
in all of them media was given the right to speak its mind.
but now we see our rights foiled and our media harassed.
we see our ballot being spat upon.
we see our justice system mum about our situation.
we see garci eating a hearty meal while chavit singson keeps endangered species in his own house and laughing heartily on TV.
we see a president admitting guilt and saying sorry on television.
and all we think about is who’s going to replace her?
its’ true we are not ready to face democracy,
or if we are we don’t want to fight for it
some people would rather wait for the next election and get cheated again than resist a crI’minal president that wont even place herself accountable to the people who voted her into office (by virtue of cheating and vote buying)
the next days would always be filled with more threats and arrests and uncertainty. and each hour, minute and second we don’t practice our democracy we will remain in the dark.
