“It is not so much as trying to find a replacement that bothers me about GMA. I think its more of Filipinos having to tolerate corruption, massive killings of journalists and activists, GMA staying in one of the most expensive hotels in the world using the taxes of Filipinos. Nevermind the question of her legitimacy if Filipinos are tired of debating about it. Lets’ just focus more on how GMA runs the country then perhaps Filipinos would change their attitude towards her. Yet I might still be mistaken, perhaps we deserve somebody like GMA.”
In a country that is overly dependent on dollars earned by its poor citizens working odd jobs outside of the country.
In a country rife with corruption and massive downgrade of education, where politics equates with serial murders.
Only one President perhaps is the most thick-faced of them all to stay in one of the most luxurious and expensive hotels in the world while using the money collected from the taxes of one of the poorest countries in the world.
Yes she is the most un-popular President in the history of the country not to mention the most number of journalist killed in the history of press freedom.
Her name is Gloria Macapagal Arroyo…
Apparently her stay in Dubai was for purposes of creating stronger ties with the Philippines and Dubai. The reason behind being that most employees working in Dubai came from the Philippines.
My take on this is that the President has already stretched her ability to work ethically and has completely lost all her moral ascendancy to rule the country.
Even so she stays in power and even took over congress covertly after the great ousting of the former speaker Jose De Venecia who promised to expose everything he knows about GMA.
Which brings me to another point, even though JDV talked at length about the misdeeds of the government, it is still a known fact the he helped her grow in power. And as known between power hungry people, such persons are prone to biting the hand that feeds them. Either way JDV could’ve done it to GMA otherwise.
The move by GMA is nothing more but a simple manifestation of her character towards the people who were once in power and is on a downward spiral.
The weird thing about it is I had mixed feelings regarding JDV’s descent to oblivion. He went down fighting but fighting perhaps for his own ends still. the moral of the story behind such can be likened to Frankenstein wherein JDV created a monster he can’t control in the end.
I had a feeling that the creator having the power to create such monster could create another monster to take down the reigning one. whether in the form of another person or plain takeover. But looking at the situation of the country looking out I don’t think it is feasible.
For one the main force behind JDV and GMA is FVR and behind FVR has always been the U.S. and right now the U.S. is in a state of confusion and is even at the brink of desperately saving its neck economically even before the Presidential Election starts.
Where will the funds come from granting that the Left almost suddenly ceased to exist who in their right minds are the only ones malleable enough to move without funding?
So right now the people in power can never be toppled because of the lack of any “visible” and “morally upright” opposition. The church relegating itself yet again to the conscripts of “praying for peace” instead of doing something about it goes beyond doubt another nail in the coffin of democracy.
So the question would be “Who’s next on the list?” Will it take on the senate? The SC?
If there’s one thing this government has been able to successfully accomplish it is to literally and figuratively scatter the left and took a great hold on to the military while feigning modesty and justice.
In a way we are like sheep being herded down a cliff having the rising peso as bait while little by little we are being snagged off our backs one by one by government wolves.
Little by little it all comes to light, the bombing of Glorietta provides smokescreens to the people to arouse controversy and doubts. Seems like a number of stimulus have been thrown at the masses again and again rendering them numb and insensitive to any form of activism.
Even so monsters create other monsters… and sometimes monsters by their very nature can be more destructive as its predecessors… Let us hope that the monster that lives within the masses wakes up… Another EDSA? Anyone?
